I don’t know where this movie came from, or who made it, but it is the most creative, exciting, and fun filled motion picture I have ever seen! I don’t even know how to describe the film. It is a combination of 80s/90s style video games, rock & roll music videos, kung fu flicks, comic books and young adult romance movies all rolled into one. Even the editing is done fast paced and plays out like a comic book, with a sprinkle of nostalgic Batman TV phrases exploding on the screen during the fight scenes. This movie is insanely funny and very entertaining! I have never seen anything like it. Kids, teens and young adults will love it, most adults, unless you are cool (LOL) will finding it confusing and hate it.
The premise itself is simple. A geeky nerd guy named Scott Pilgrim 22, who is in a rock band, and has a girl friend, who is in high school, falls for a new girl in town and he attempts to pursue her. Unbeknownst to us, and him, this girl has 7 ex evil boyfriends who have mystical fighting powers. Each one of these boyfriends challenges Scott Pilgrim to various duels. As interesting as that was, it was interesting to learn that Scott Pilgrim the rock band nerd, is also a pretty powerful martial arts fighter and bass guitar duelist.
The thing I like about this film is that it starts off like it will obey the laws of physics and be a regular movie about young adult love, but then next thing you know people are flying, fighting, and being blasted into game coins! My favorite scene in the movie had to do with the evil boyfriend number 3, who identifies that his super powers are a result of his vegan diet. His powers and his eventual end prove to be hilarious. I loved everything about this movie, and I am really having a hard time putting what I liked about this film on paper. It was so unique and creative that I sat there with a smile on my face the entire time. Kameron came with me and we were both laughing, oohhing and ahhing throughout the entire film. There will be many of you who will think this movie is dumb, but I loved every minute of it. All I know is that at the end of the movie, people were clapping.
This movie gets an A++ from me, and has become my favorite movie of the summer! Now is it as deep as Inception? No way, but this movie had my juices flowing and had me giddy as a kid!
