Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is the sequel to the smashing success Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Ten winters have gone by since the events in the first film, which has seen the Earth’s population decimated by the Simian Flu. The apes that had escaped human captivity at the end of the first film, have established a home for themselves in the Redwoods of near the Golden Gate Bridge in former San Francisco. The leader of the apes is Caesar, who along with a few other apes acquired the power of human level intelligence and speech after being exposed to a human biological experiment, which also created the Simian Flu. All is well in ape village until they come across human survivors who are looking to establish a power source at a hydroelectric dam near the apes’ village.
Unfortunately, just like any first contact situation between different cultures, trust is hard to come by and accidents and misunderstandings take place, which lead to conflict. This leads to some pretty cool action scenes, which creators of the original Planet of the Apes films and TV shows would be envious of!
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is a solid summer blockbuster that is touching and exciting. Make sure you see the Rise of the Planet of the Apes before seeing this one because it will make the film that more meaningful. The seeds for a true Planet of the Apes has been planted and I can’t wait to see how it grows!
