Rogue One: A Star Wars Story had me so intrigued and filled with anticipation, that I expected a letdown when I saw the film. Fortunately for me, I had no such letdown! I loved Rogue One! For all you Star Wars fans that love the movies, the television shows and just embrace the entire Star Wars Universe, you are in for a treat! The story takes place a mere couple of weeks before the events in the original Star Wars movie, which is now known as Episode IV: A New Hope, and the ending of Rogue One leads right into the next film. The original Star Wars story was that Princess Leia had secret plans that revealed a weakness in the newly constructed Death Star. The question that always existed was, where did she get the plans? Now we know!
The premise of Rogue One is how the Rebel Alliance secures the Death Star plans. The daughter of one of the designers of the Death Star, and various elements of the Rebel Alliance join together to steal the plans, and that is the story in a nutshell. From this kernel of story we get an elaborate wartime adventure film that will be enjoyable for fans and non-fans alike. This movie is filled to the rim with Easter eggs that make direct, and indirect references to various Star Wars films, characters and television shows.
When I was a kid and I saw the first Star Wars film, I always wondered why the Rebels had so few fighters and ships when they took on the Death Star at the end of the film. Now I know the answer, but I won’t spoil it for you! The characters in this film were not as memorable as those you see in the original trilogy, but I loved Jane Erso the daughter of the disgruntled imperial officer who helped design the Death Star, Cassian the multi-layered Rebel Captain and K2SO the Imperial droid who almost steals the movie with his serious yet comedic quips!
A quarter of the way into the movie I was in the high b-range, but the last half of the film with the cameos from rebels in the original movie and Vader, Darth freaking Vader show casing why he is the baddest dude in the galaxy, made my grade rocket up to an A!
Rogue One! I am seeing it again!
